Belleville’s chief is reacting to the latest Crime Severity Index numbers released this week by Statistics Canada.
Those numbers show an overall drop of about 500 Criminal Code violations, outside of traffic offences, with the crime rate dropping 13% from 2017.
Chief Ron Gignac tells Quinte News one of the main reasons the city has seen a drop in crime over the last year is due to the cooperation between the police force and its community partners.
But Gignac is also praising his officers and tells Quinte News their work is proof that the police force is following through on his goal of making Belleville the safest community in Ontario.
