“The weather’s great for Waterfront and I take full responsibility for it. That’s my job” said CEO of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce Jill Raycroft with a twinkle in her eye and a grin on her face Sunday afternoon.
“We’ve had fun, the crowds have been great. We can only roughly estimate the numbers and that takes a while because we track various aspects of the festival like parking, food sales, midway proceeds, and shuttle bus numbers etc. but I’m sure this year we’ll have attracted 30,000 to 40,000 people, and that’s pretty much steady with good weather years in the recent past.”
Raycroft said helicopter rides above the area were especially popular this year and there were good crowds for the bands playing at night.
“The main stage got off to a really good start with Hotel California, a tribute to the Eagles, and we just kept rolling from there. But, here’s a fact that might be surprising to some, our surveys tell us that the the biggest reason almost 9 out of 10 people come to Waterfront is the food in the Redpath Multicultural Food Village.”
The Waterfront and Multicultural Festival had something for everyone and admission was free. Parking was $5 per vehicle and proceeds will be split between four community organizations.
