The local Catholic school board has submitted its budget for the 2019-20 school year.
Officials with the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board say the spending plan includes an operating budget of $156.2 million and a capital budget of $11.3 million.
The budget is expected to run a deficit of more than $958,000 which school board staff say is a result of challenges faced by the board, due to changes in funding and class sizes, but is still within the regulations of the provincial Education Act.
The Board of Trustees says it “is committed to meeting the needs of students within the confines of the provincial funding model and has committed to eliminating the deficit within two years”.
The ALCDSB serves more than 11,000 students in elementary and secondary schools, with more than 1,300 full-time staff, across 16,000 square kilometres.
