The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board said a heartfelt goodbye to its soon to be retiring Director of Education last night (Monday).
Director Mandy Savery Whiteway was presented with a handcarved plaque, a denim style jacket made by trustee and former board chair Lucille Kyle with materials from cast-off clothing from Savery Whiteway’s grandson, and a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Kyle thanked Savery Whiteway for her many years of service to the board adding “I’ve learned so much from you. You’ve pulled us together and have been patient yet driven. You’ve set goals and you’ve accomplished them.”
For her part, Savery Whiteway said that her mother always told her that “public education was the great equalizer” and said the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board was a great place to be because of the all the dedicated work of the staff and board members now and in the past.
The search process continues for a new Director of Education.
