Over $40,000 worth of contraband has been seized at Collins Bay Institution.
Staff reports on June 7 during the early morning hours, staff seized two packages containing contraband and unauthorized items. One was seized on the perimeter of the maximum security unit and one in the yard of the medium security unit.
There were 232 grams of marijuana and a cell phone for an institutional value of $24,210 in the first package and 325.6 grams of tobacco, 86.5 grams of marijuana and cell phones in the second package for a value of $18,464.
Correctional Service Canada has had a complete smoking ban since 2008. CSC and police are investigating this incident.
