A longtime assistant coach and former player with the Belleville Bulls has been named head coach of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The team announced Tuesday that Jake Grimes would take over the role behind the bench ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
Grimes, a Nova Scotia native, was drafted by the OHL Bulls in the fourth round in 1989 and played two seasons before serving as an assistant coach for 11 seasons, between 2004 and 2015.
He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Peterborough Petes and most recently with the Guelph Storm, where he reunited with former Belleville head coach George Burnett, to guide Guelph to an OHL title this past season.
Grimes has also coached Team Canada (Ontario) at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge four times, two as a head coach and twice as an assistant.
