Funds borrowed for construction work
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board approved the borrowing of up to $10 million for the 2019/2020 fiscal year.
The board approved the motion on Monday night at their regular board meeting as the funds will be used to help cover the cost of improvements at three schools.
The funds are strictly in place to provide cash flow for improvements at schools until funds are received from the Ministry of Education.
The board is authorized to borrow up to $8.66 million for various school improvements under the School Condition Improvement Program, up to $7.89 million for an addition and renovations at Eastside Secondary School under the Capital Priorities Grant, up to $3.12 million for an addition and renovations at Centre Hastings Secondary School under the Capital Priorities Grant and up to $12.04 million for the demolition and construction of a new elementary school on the Queen Elizabeth (Belleville) site, full-day kindergarten and child care programs.
Roofing work approved
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board approved $1.8 million worth of roofing repairs for three schools at their meeting on Monday night.
Dafoe Roofing will replace the roof at Deserontro Public School at a cost of $212,364. French Brothers Roofing will be working at Eastside Secondary School and Prince Edward Collegiate Institute at a cost of $889,553 and $679,430 respectively.
Student Trustees elected for 2019/2020
Three students will once again sit on the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board as the student trustees.
Ryan Gentle from Trenton High School will return for a second year.
Newly elected are Kristen Brant from Eastside Secondary School (Indigenous student representative) and Madison Davis of Centennial Secondary School.
