The name Easthill Elementary School was approved by the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board at their meeting on Monday night as the new name of the consolidated elementary school in east end Belleville.
Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria were selected to be consolidated by the board in 2017 to help deal with declining enrolment numbers among other things.
Director of Education Mandy Savery-Whiteway explains why the decision was made to combine the schools.
Four names were shortlisted including Bay of Quinte, Belleville East, Easthill and Rosewood.
The name was chosen as it was the preferred name of both the school communities and the renaming committee.
Students, parents, staff and community members all had input on the new name.
The new colours and mascot of the kindergarten to Grade 8 school have yet to be determined.
The new school is slated to open in September 2021 following construction at the current site of Queen Elizabeth School.
