Tyendinaga Township council has joined Quinte West and Belleville and has made a donation toward the building of a residential hospice to serve families from throughout the Quinte area.
At its meeting earlier this week Tyendinaga Township council pledged $75,000 over three years to help pay for the construction of the Hospice Quinte Care Centre to be built near the shores of the Bay of Quinte in Bayside.
Tyendinaga Township Reeve Rick Phillips said the hospice project was one that was very important to the community and something that deserved support.
The fundraising goal is $9.5 million. The centre will serve families in Quinte West, Belleville, Deseronto, Tyendinaga Township and the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
The facility will feature six private bedrooms with outdoor patios, a quiet area, private family rooms, outdoor green space and a garden.
It’s hoped there will be a ground-breaking in the spring of 2020 with the hospice being open by spring of 2021.
