There was great news for Campbellford Memorial Hospital this afternoon (Wednesday).
Like many, if not all rural hospitals in Ontario, Campbellford Memorial Hospital has had its financial challenges.
Each year, hospital management needed help to balance its books.
Consultants have checked out its operations and said the hospital was very well run and in fact had the most proud and enthusiastic staff they had ever encountered.
.The consultants also noted that the hospital needed more sustainable funding to operate smoothly
Wednesday, Northumberland Peterborough South MPP David Piccini and his PC government came to the rescue. In the largest funding announcement he’s ever made for the riding, Piccini announced a $5 million investment in Campbellford Memorial.
The money will ensure the short and medium term financial sustainability of the hospital while management and staff prepare for a long term sustainable future as the area’s health care hub.
MPP Piccini told the crowd gathered outside the hospital’s main entrance that he very much understood how much passion there was in Campbellford and the surrounding area for the hospital.
“People would literally chase me down the street to talk about the hospital and implore us to keep it going and to make it better. This is a great hospital and we want it to become the healthcare hub for this area for a long long time.”
Just months ago the provincial government granted $1.74 million to upgrade air conditioning and other items at CMH.
