Belleville’s new Integrity Commissioner made a presentation to city council Monday night outlining the work he will carry out for the city.
Lawyer Tony Fleming said he will have two roles, giving advice about conflict of interest, and handling the complaint process for code of conduct and conflict of interest.
When questioned about the timing of the commissioner’s reports, Fleming said a code of conduct investigation would be answered within 90 days and for a municipal conflict of interest it would be within 180 days.
He added that some municipalities are doing investigations regarding alleged breeches but more often they require advice than for complaints.
“They get advice before they step over the line,” he said.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News he’s concerned that any work the commissioner does becomes public.
Fleming says he will hold a training session for council in June.
Mayor Panciuk emphasized this would be an open session.
