The statue of Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald ‘holding court’ in downtown Picton may shortly have a new home.
At tonight’s meeting, Prince Edward County council are being asked to consider relocating the sculpture which is currently at The Armoury and moving it to the Picton Library.
TGSL Holdings, the owner of The Armoury property has requested the statue be relocated to allow for a landscaped square encompassing the entire Main Street frontage of the Armoury property.
Staff’s report states consultations with the former Sir John A. Macdonald committee chair David Warrick and the artist Ruth Abernathy allow for the move.
There would be no financial implications for the County as costs associated with the relocation, including the removal, will be paid for by TGSL Holdings Inc. and the Picton Library has agreed to cover the costs of elective work to be done in conjunction with the sculpture relocation.
The meeting takes place at Shire Hall at 7 p.m.
