Men from all over the Quinte region strapped on a pair of red high heels and walked proudly across downtown Trenton Saturday morning in support of abused women and the Three Oaks Foundation.
It wasn’t just about the dollars raised. Three Oaks Executive Director Sandy Watson-Moyles says raising awareness is just as important.
The Three Oaks Foundation offers services and shelter to abused women and children, free of charge. The program is 80 percent funded by the government, which means the remaining $140,000 to $160,000 of necessary funds are raised from donations and events like this.
The event organizer of Three Oaks, Leah Morgan says they rely heavily on these types of events.
Morgan adds that she is very happy with this year’s turnout.
The event was held at Fraser Park in Trenton this year and the participants walked from Fraser Park, down Quinte Street past the Metro Grocery Store, turned right on Dundas Street and continued downtown back to Fraser Park.
The Three Oaks Foundation aims to end violence towards women. Raising money and awareness around the community is the most essential part of doing that.
Mayor of Quinte West, Jim Harrison says, improving the status of all of us is important.
Local participant and supporter of the fundraiser, Alec Saigle says it’s nice to give back.
Morgan says, the Three Oaks Foundation raised $6,000 in this year’s event after raising $13,000 one year ago.
