Operation Stand Proud is still seven weeks away but Mike Eden of Leon’s Trenton says it is a to not be missed event.
Eden, who came up with the idea, wanted to pay tribute to our military and show them the community’s support in a big way.
He says the idea took a number of years to come up with as he’s been wanting to do something since September 11, 2001. He says seeing all the soldier repatriation ceremonies and the hundreds of people lining roads to pay tribute was a profound moment.
Eden says he wanted to do something and turn all the emotions into actions and this is what he came up with.
The event will not only show the military locally how much support they have but he hopes it will become an iconic image nation-wide.
There is only room for 5,000 people to participate in this event which is set to take place on Saturday, June 29 at Centennial Park.
Eden says this is not only a family friendly event, but it’s free. Everyone who registers also receives a red shirt to wear the day of the event to create a vibrant red maple leaf for the drone photo. The shirt says “I broke a Guinness World Record”.
This Guinness World Record attempt is hoping to smash the previous record of 1,589 participants, so far there are just over 1,300 people registered.
Eden says there is a lot of work that goes into an attempt to break a world record.
