The first game of the 2019 South Hastings Baseball League season will be re-match of the final game of 2018.
The venerable South Hastings League enters is 86th year with 8 teams which is down one from last season. The Shannonville Hawks will not field a team this year.
The season opens Saturday with four games led by the defending champion Bain Excavating Rockies playing the runner-up Farrell Excavating Melrose Shamrocks at 2 o’clock on Jim Uens field in Melrose.
Each team will play 20 games.
There is a new playoff format this year. The top 3 teams in the regular season will make the playoffs. The 4th and 5th place teams will playoff in a one game wildcard with the winner joining the other three.
The remaining four teams will playoff for the South Hastings “B” Championship.
