It appears the horses have escaped in Tyendinaga Township… again.
A caller to Quinte News notified us over the weekend that horses were seen running loose on Blessington Road near Weese Road in Tyendinaga Township.
Township CAO Brad Roach confirms that several of the eight horses from the Blessington Road property had broken through fences as early as mid-April (2019).
In 2018, charges were laid against the horses owner, after many of her animals were running loose around the municipality.
Roach says the issue cost the municipality about $25,000, along with an unknown amount to Lennox & Addington OPP (then Napanee OPP).
The charges were dropped, after a deal was reached with the home owner. She was allowed to have eight horses of the same sex for six months, then unlimited horses of the same sex for six months, and then the ban would be lifted.
CAO Roach says Reeve Rick Phillips is concerned that the animals have been spotted loose once again. He adds that the municipality is looking at an animal control by-law and a domestic fence by-law.
The municipality has also contacted the Crown Attorney’s office over the issue.
