OPP in Quinte West say they’ll be stepping up their patrols on area waterways with a major fishing event in town.
The Kiwanis Walleye World Fishing Derby runs this weekend and police have already been out conducting safety equipment checks at boat launches along the Trent River.
Police are reminding anglers and all boaters that life jackets and personal flotation devices are not optional and must meet all Canadian safety standards.
Anyone who doesn’t follow the rules of the water will be fined or charged under provincial legislation.
