The City of Belleville is showing its support for an important non-profit organization that plays a huge role in changing people’s lives.
Mayor Mitch Pancuik declared May Community Living Awareness month on Tuesday night and says the reach of this organization is quite large.
Community Living Belleville aims to provide quality supports to those with intellectual disabilities and to facilitate their full inclusion in community life.
Their big fundraiser in June is the Mayor’s Challenge and Pancuik says Belleville will take home bragging rights.
CLBA Executive Director Christine Semark says the 36th annual golf tournament plays a vital role in helping them fulfill their goal of keeping people immersed in community life.
Funds raised at the tournament support their transportation needs.
She says a single accessible vehicle costs between $70,000 and $80,000.
Semark also told Quinte News having the support of the city is critical.
Community Living Belleville supports approximately 150 children, youth and adults, but their aid goes beyond that, causing a ripple effect to siblings, parents, caregivers and others in the community.
