Despite predictions from Quinte Conservation that Lake Ontario water levels are not supposed to reach 2017 levels, a flood outlook has still been issued for the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario.
The conservation authority says the lake rose 15 cms over the last week and there is a 50% chance lake levels will rise another 15 cms in the next week.
This rise in lake levels is in response to recent significant and forecasted rainfalls and the spring freshet on the Ottawa and St. Lawrence Rivers. In addition, Lake Erie is contributing above average inflows to Lake Ontario.
Residents are advised to contact their local municipalities if they require sandbags and should take the necessary precautions to secure any loose articles along their shoreline to prevent loss and damage.
A flood outlook statement gives notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high wind or other conditions that could lead to high runoff, lakeshore flooding or erosion.
