A program to encourage the planting of native trees on urban and rural properties gets underway next weekend in Belleville and Hastings County.
Seedlings for a variety of species, paid for by each municipality will be given to the public.
The program is supported by the Hastings Stewardship Council and Quinte Conservation.
Maya Navrot of Quinte Conservation says, “Planting trees helps clean air and lock up carbon,… replenish groundwater and enhance habitat for wildlife…”
The seedling giveaway will be held Saturday April 27, beginning at 9 a.m., while the quantities last.
The seven locations are Belleville, Quinte West, Madoc, Marmora and Lake, Stirling-Rawdon, Tweed and Tyendinaga Township.
