The City of Belleville is paving the way to move a business off Front Street and make the downtown core more “appealing”.
Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk has announced that pending a rezoning of its new location, the Ontario Addiction and Treatment Centre will be moving from Front Street, to the former Medigas property at the corner of Dundas and Church Streets.
The mayor says the move will benefit both clients of the OATC and the city’s downtown equally.
He adds that the move is in line with the city’s purchase of the former Cabaret property across from City Hall, in making sure that appropriate businesses are the ones locating downtown.
When asked about having another vacant property on Front Street, Downtown Business Improvement Area Chair Kathryn Brown tells Quinte News the process is already underway in cooperation with commercial real estate agents to fill the void.
The move is still pending a rezoning of the proposed new location by the city’s planning committee, which is expected to happen at an upcoming meeting.
