A special weather statement has been issued for Belleville, Quinte West and Eastern Northumberland County as those areas can expect significant rainfall Sunday.
Environment Canada says precipitation associated with an approaching low pressure system is expected to move into Eastern Ontario Sunday and persist until Monday morning. Precipitation may begin as snow before changing to rain in some areas.
Total rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are possible. The ground is still at least partially frozen over much of eastern Ontario. As a result, it will have a limited ability to absorb this rainfall.
Localized ponding in low-lying areas and on roads is possible.
