It was not the game the Wellington Dukes were hoping for.
The Dukes were hit hard last night by the Oakville Blades in game one of their Buckland Cup final, losing 6-0.
The home team scored just over three minutes into the game and didn’t look back.
Two more goals found their way behind Logan Bateman by the end of the first period for a 3-0 Blades lead.
The second period saw the game get a little more physical between the two teams as ten minor penalties were called.
Oakville was able to take advantage of the extra attacker and scored a powerplay goal and an even strength goal in the middle frame to take a 5-0 lead.
Bateman faced 20 shots, stopping 15 of them before being chased from the net following the fifth goal at the tail end of the second.
Kyle Renaud was called in on relief and faced six shots, stopping five, as Oakville added an additional marker in the third period.
The Blades netminder, Will Barber saw 24 shots during the game.
Wellington was handed eight penalties during the game, and Oakville were given seven penalties.
Game two goes Sunday night at Lehigh arena at 7 p.m.
