The City of Belleville says it’s ready to step up and help workers who were recently laid off from a call centre in the city.
Earlier this week workers at Concentrix on Dundas Street West were told the company had lost a significant contract and that up to 240 people could be affected by that.
However, Concentrix Spokesperson Brooke Beiting tells Quinte News that more than 100 of those affected employees could be placed on another program, with others having the potential to take part in the company’s “robust work from home program”.
Beiting adds that the company’s sales team is working hard to bring new contracts in and that another significant layoff at a Concentrix location in Arizona, affecting about 800 employees, is not connected.
In a press release Wednesday morning, Mayor Mitch Panciuk says the layoffs are concerning but he’s “confident the city has resources that can help those affected to find meaningful employment in Belleville”.
He touted the Work in Belleville Program, along with an upcoming job fair at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre on April 23, which will showcase more than 40 potential employers.
