They may have been the 4th place team in the East during the OJHL’s regular season, but today the Wellington Dukes are the South-East Conference playoff champions.
Elijah Gonsalves and Daniel Panetta scored in the second period to rally Wellington from behind as they beat the North York Rangers 5-3 in game 7 to advance to the League championship for the second straight year.
Andrew Rinaldi scored the winner at 16:04 of the third before Dawson Ellis potted his second of the game into an empty net to clinch it.
Logan Bateman stopped 26 shots.
The Dukes face the Oakville Blades in the final which is a re-match of the 2011 championship which Wellington won. The Dukes have won the league title 3 times and try to become the first team since the 2006-07 St. Mikes Buzzers to win back to back championships.
Dates for the final have not been announced yet.
