The fire chief in Quinte West is suspending all burning in the municipality as his crews finish dousing some hot spots on a grass fire early this afternoon.
Firefighters from stations five and seven were called to 1011 Fish and Game Club Road and dealt with a large grass fire that was spreading rapidly.
They were able to contain the fire and protect a few buildings nearby.
Fire Chief John Whelan tells Quinte News the property owners had been burning without a permit and heavy winds caused the flames to spread.
The chief is giving another reminder that if you are planning to do any outdoor burning on your property you must have a permit, or face fines and potential charges.
He also says you should always take the wind conditions into account before any burning in order to avoid situations like this one.
