It was a dreary and damp day Saturday to say the least, but that didn’t stop about 40 people from standing at a busy Belleville intersection protesting changes being made by the provincial government on how it funds autism therapies for children.
The Ford government is focused on clearing a very long wait list for autism therapy services by offering up to $20,000 a year to families for kids under 6 and up to $5,000 to families with children from 6 to 18.
The demonstrators believe most families won’t be able to afford intensive therapies for their children.
Sarah Daley is the mother of an autistic child and she says it’s time the government pushes the reset button on its plans.
The changes take effect soon. The demonstration was held at Bell Boulevard and North Front Street.
