Belleville Police Service responded to 68 calls for service from March 28, 2019 at 5 a.m. to March 29, 2019 at 5 a.m.
Theft
On March 28, 2019 at approximately 12:20 p.m., police were called to a north end retail store regarding two male shoplifters. The males took wine bottles from the shelf then left the store without attempting to pay for them. When they were approached by store security they ran and police were contacted. Police were able to locate the males who were attempting to hide in a nearby field. They were arrested for theft and taken to The Belleville Police Service where they were later released to their parents each on a promise to appear. The 15 and 16 year old Belleville residents were given a court date of April 23, 2019 to answer to their charges. Their names cannot be released under provisions of The Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Aggravated assault
On March 11, 2019, police commenced an assault investigation. A male adult reported that he suffered a broken jaw from a punch. This occurred on March 7, 2019 in the city’s west end. On March 27 a 17-year-old male was charged with aggravated assault. He will appear in Youth Court on April 23, 2019. His name cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Public intoxication
On March 28, 2019 at 11:30 p.m., police were called to an apartment building in the downtown area in relation to a disturbance. Shortly after arriving on scene police arrested a 46-year-old Belleville male for public intoxication. He was taken to police cells for the night to sober up and released on a provincial offence notice in the morning on a charge of public intoxication.
Arrest on warrant
On March 29, 2019 at 1 a.m., police arrested a 22-year-old Belleville male on the strength of an arrest warrant that The Toronto Police Service held for sexual assault. The arrest was made as a result of police being called to a residence in the city’s core with relation to a disturbance. The male was transported to The Belleville Police Service where he was held until Toronto Police arrived to take custody of him in order to return him to Toronto to have him answer to the charge.
