Doctors, nurses and many others working at Quinte Health Care hospitals are thankful that the flu season wasn’t especially bad this year.
Staff is thankful because the number of patients coming with various respiratory illnesses has been very high and the illnesses have been lingering longer than in the past.
President of QHC Mary Clare Egberts says the Quinte region has an older population and heart and lung problems only increase with age.
On Monday, there were about 60 more patients than usual being looked after at Belleville General Hospital.
QHC board chair Stuart Wright congratulated medical staff for working extra hard to handle the unprecedented patient load over the past several weeks.
