Despite playing well in their second road game in as many nights, the Belleville Senators failed to pick up a win on their East Coast Trip this weekend.
The B-Sens outshot the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 30-22, but Christopher Gibson made the difference, as the Sound Tigers skated to a 2-1 win.
Head Coach Troy Mann tells Quinte News his club deserved a better fate.
Filip Gustavsson made his first start in goal for Belleville since February 9 and got beat in the first and second periods by tipped shots, as Bridgeport opened up a lead.
Mann laid no blame on the young goaltender, saying offence is coming at a premium this close to the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Belleville’s only goal came from Cody Goloubef at 17:54 of the third with the extra attacker out.
It was Goloubef’s sixth of the season, assisted by Logan Brown.
Belleville now holds just a two point advantage on Cleveland for the final playoff spot in the North Division, with the Monsters holding two games in hand.
The B-Sens are in action next on Wednesday when they welcome the Syracuse Crunch to CAA Arena.
Forward Jack Rodewald tells Quinte News despite the tough weekend, the Senators are looking forward to playing out most of their remaining games at home.
