The Napanee OPP have released their Distracted Driving Campaign results.
The campaign, which took place during March break, saw officers lay 47 charges under the “Handheld Communication Device” driving laws. Fines for this charge are $615 and a three day licence suspension if convicted.
Two drivers were additionally charged with careless operation of a motor vehicle which brings a $490 fine.
Increased distracted driving penalties took effect on January 1. The new penalties include a fine increase up to $1,000, three demerit points and a three-day licence suspension. Novice drivers also face longer licence suspensions under the new laws.
