Frustration continues for staff and council in Stirling-Rawdon when it comes to funding support from the provincial government.
Funding from the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund this year is $53,000 less than last year, totalling $949,000.
Mayor of Stirling-Rawdon Bob Mullin says provincial government funding support has been going down since before 2012, with only a small increase coming in 2016.
Meanwhile, most other communities in Hastings County have seen their provincial dollars staying the same or going up. Tweed has received over $100,000 more this year to over 2.1 million dollars.
Officials in Stirling-Rawdon have also been trying unsuccessfully to again be eligible for provincial dollars for road and bridge upgrades under the Connecting Link Program.
The province used to fund work on County Road 14 running south from Highway 7 through Stirling Rawdon under the Connecting Link Program, however all of the expensive upgrades must now be paid for by local taxpayers only.
On a positive note, Mayor Mullin says taxpayers should be seeing some relief in a year and a half after the decision to disband the municipal police service in favour of joining the OPP.
