The Community Improvement Plan revolving around the City of Quinte West’s Industrial Lands is ready for community review.
The city began the process last fall and will be presenting the draft version of the CIP at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers in Trenton.
Community members and business owners are invited to attend the open house to learn more about the proposed financial incentive programs for industrial development.
A CIP is a planning and economic development tool that municipalities can use to assist in revitalizing a community or a specific area, to enable a wide range of financial incentive programs that encourage private investment, and to support strategic municipal initiatives aimed at promoting development.
Industrially-focused CIPs provide many community benefits by:
- Stimulating private investment in targeted industrial areas through financial incentive programs (e.g. tax incentives and grants)from the City;
- Promoting investment-readiness to support business investment and economic development opportunities;
- Providing incentives for industrial development that contributes to job growth and economic vitality in the City;
- Enabling the City to reintroduce private investments into the community through the purchase of local goods and services, generation of tax revenue that can be used for broader community improvements, and increase in property values; and
- Making effective use of existing community infrastructure
The open house runs from 4:30 until 7 p.m.
The CIP task group consists of members of city staff, council and the Economic and Development and Tourism Advisory Committee as well as the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce and the Quinte Economic Development Commission.
