A large commercial project is being proposed for land on Belleville’s Bell Boulevard, west of the Towne Place Suites by Marriott and the Shoreline Casino.
The proposal presented to the city’s Planning Committee on Monday calls for a complex, featuring 15 commercial buildings which would include a large retail outlet, food store, fitness centre and gas station on a site stretching all the way from Bell Boulevard to Highway 401.
The application to the city reports on a long list of issues, such as the retail market impact.
Figures presented by the consultant in a report indicate the development could create up to 848 full-time jobs.
It states the city could benefit from $2.1 million in one-time fees and $1.3 million a year in property tax revenue.
The report says the development would cover about 20% of the site and also include banks, restaurants and personal shops.
It indicates that the project, along an arterial road and near Highway 401, is consistent with the city’s Loyalist Secondary Plan and will draw on community and regional markets.
The owner, Jenland Properties Limited, is seeking a zoning by-law amendment.
The Planning committee received the information and called for a staff report on the issue.
