What’s been called “an incredible program” will send its graduating class right into full-time jobs next week.
The Elevate Plus program is a joint collaboration between Quinte Economic Development Commission, Loyalist College, Ontario Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, companies in the manufacturing and food processing industry.
QEDC Executive Director Chris King says it provides skills for the unemployed who move right into full-time jobs.
At a recent QEDC meeting, Belleville Councillor Ryan Williams called it “an incredible program.”
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison said he had met one man who had graduated from the program who was a great success.
Harrison said, “The man had been 15 years on the street, he graduated and got a managerial position.”
A total of 127 people have moved into jobs in the past two years.
The latest graduation will be held at 1:30 p.m. next Thursday, at the former Cox Library, 85 Marmora Street in Trenton.
Elevate Plus has been a pilot project locally and at about six other locations in Ontario.
King tells Quinte News it is not yet known if it will be continued by the provincial government, as is, or possibly in another form.
