On Saturday February 16, 2019 just after 11 p.m., officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) tried to initiate a traffic stop ona grey SUV after observing poor driving behaviours on Front Street South in the town of Campbellford.
Several attempts were made to stop the SUV but the driver refused to pull over, and continued to drive in an erratic manner. Officers followed the vehicle to a residence and observed the driver and passenger exit the vehicle quickly. After displaying some resistance, two men from the Municipality of Trent Hills were taken into custody.

Daniel Smith (age 31) was arrested and charged with:

Assault a Peace Officer
Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, Ontario on April 17, 2019.
No injuries were sustained as a result of this incident.
