It’s been another great year for the annual Feed the Meter Campaign in downtown Belleville.
At a presentation today at Sir John A. Macdonald school, Mayor Mitch Panciuk and chair of the Belleville Downtown Business Area Kathryn Brown presented a cheque to the Food for Learning Foundation totalling $15,329.68.
The money came from people putting money into downtown parking meters despite the fact the city offered free parking
during the month of December.
When sponsors and other revenues are factored in, the total amount raised in Belleville was just over $18,000.
That works out to almost $800 for food per school in the city.
The Foundation served over 415,000 meals and snacks in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties last year.
Cheque presentations to Food for Learning have yet to be made by the City of Quinte West and Prince Edward County.
