A Thurlow Ward councillor is responding to criticism from others on Belleville Council who have criticized the extended length of construction of an emergency homeless shelter in the city’s downtown.
The criticism had been aimed at organizers of the Grace Inn Shelter, being built in the former Irish Hall, which is expected to be completed this spring or summer.
Councillor Paul Carr says those critical views are not shared by everyone on council.
Carr made a visit to the shelter this week to show his support and credited the volunteers who are getting the privately-funded shelter up and running, adding that these types of projects take time.
Shelter organizers are in the process of hiring an executive director and staff to work at the facility, which is expected to be open by late spring or early summer this year.
