A handful of people had to leave their apartments in a house near the Quinte Consolidated Court building early this morning (Thursday).
The house on James Street was filling with smoke and Belleville firefighters determined there was a small fire burning in the attic.
The residents were taken elsewhere while crews worked to clear up the problem.
The call came in shortly after 4 o’clock.
