2018 was a very busy and productive year for the City of Quinte West and Mayor Jim Harrison wants to keep that momentum going.
The Quinte West Chamber of Commerce held its first event of the year at the Ramada Friday and Mayor Harrison was the guest of honour.
He took the opportunity to address what the city has been up to and what they have planned going forward.
He says he looks forward to this event each year.
Some of the highlights of last year were the opening of the new fire hall, moving Quinte Access and the Care and Share Food Bank to Pelham Street, the Scott Avenue redevelopment and the Hamilton Road and Wallbridge-Loyalist Road project.
There was also $110 million spent in the city on building permits.
Looking ahead, construction on the new $12.5 million OPP building has begun and work is ongoing on the $45 million Trenton Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrades.
Harrison told those in attendance that when it comes to the wastewater treatment plant, they are doing it to exceed ministry guidelines. He also said work on water projects can only be undertaken during certain times of the year.
The province announced Friday that Quinte West would be receiving $303,000 for transit and Harrison says they already know where the funds will go.
Harrison said they will continue with their physician recruitment and retention program, they are continuing to improve their active transportation plan, have committed $3 million to the six-bed Quinte Hospice and are working on 12 subdivisions in the Frankford and Trenton area.
