A small rental moving truck was moving a big load of illegal cigarettes through our region yesterday (Monday).
Just before one in the afternoon, Napanee OPP officers stopped a U-Haul truck on Highway 401 in Greater Napanee and seized 296 cases or almost 3 million contraband cigarettes. Several thousand dollars in cash was also seized.
A 64-year-old man from Quebec was charged with possession of contraband for the purpose of sale, transportation of contraband, and failing to comply with probation.
He also faces charges under Ontario’s Tobacco Act.
The investigation continues with the the assistance of Ontario’s Ministry of Finance.
