The Quinte Humane Society needs a new home and badly.
Frank Rockett, Executive Director with the Humane Society, made an appeal to Prince Edward County’s Committee of the Whole on Thursday afternoon to help contribute towards a new building.
Rockett explained the end is near for their current building and they are seeking $250,000 in funding from the County to help make this happen.
He says they have unreliable well water and their septic system is beyond repair.
Rockett explained they want to build a regional centre of excellence that will continue to benefit Prince Edward County, Hastings County and the Belleville area.
They have a three year strategic plan to get this project done as he is hoping the new shelter is open by 2022 at the latest.
The new site would be fully accessible, would provide an on-site spay and neuter clinic, a quarantine area for sick animals, a community animal food bank with storage, state-of-the-art infection control which includes advanced indoor ventilation system, quiet areas for pregnant and nursing animals, on-site administration offices, a multi-purpose room for public and school educational programs and more.
The organization has already purchased a parcel of land at the northeast corner of Hwy. 2 and Wallbridge-Loyalist Road.
They have received two major gifts that total $1.45 million, another gift of $100,000 and numerous other small donations for this project totalling $123,487.
Rockett says they have meetings with Quinte West and Belleville later this month.
