OPP in the Napanee area are warning Facebook users about a scam that’s hit the area and led to at least one person being defrauded of $3,500.
Investigators say the victim got a message from a Facebook friend asking them to put the money into a bank account provided and that in return, they would be given $300,000 from the federal government, as part of a disabled workers’ grant.
The victim sent the money and then realized their friend’s Facebook account had been hacked and that they had been scammed.
OPP are reminding you that “asking for money to get money” is not a valid way to do business and that similar emails, messages, or phone calls are typically attempts to take your money, or steal your personal information.
