There’s been a holdup in plans to rebuild the Catherine Street pedestrian bridge in Belleville.
The pedestrian bridge in downtown Belleville was closed because of safety concerns.
The existing structure was deteriorating.
Plans for the new project call for a wider bridge, similar to the city’s walking trails, to accommodate cyclists, and light service vehicles, as well as pedestrians.
Director of Engineering Rod Bovay told Quinte News on Monday the Department of Fisheries and Oceans has concerns about fish habitat which could be affected when the centre structure is replaced.
That plan will be presented in the next couple of weeks and Bovay says it may take three or four months to get it approved by the department.
The cost of the new bridge has been estimated at about $2 million.
