The coordinator of the Christmas Sharing Program in Belleville says the need for holiday food boxes in the city has increased from last year.
Pam Smith tells Quinte News there were 1,407 applications for food boxes this year, up from 1,370 in 2017.
Smith says while a number of local families have already been sponsored and sponsorship is up overall, other donations seem to be down, which she thinks could be due to the Canada Post labour issues that have been ongoing.
Cash donations can still be made by stopping by the Christmas Sharing office in Century Village in Belleville, or by visiting their website, with the boxes being distributed between December 18 and 22.
