A consultant’s report is confirming the long-held belief that Quinte Health Care is being under-financed under the current provincial
funding formula and has been for all of its existence.
President of QHC Mary Clare Egberts says the report, now being reviewed by the Southeast Local Health Integration Network, provides
solid evidence that QHC’s system which involves four smaller rural hospitals spread across a large area requires more funding than urban single hospital
systems.
Egberts is cautiously optimistic that changes to the funding formula will be made to reflect the reality of running a multi-site hospital system.
Meanwhile, it’s expected Quinte Health Care will end the year with a balanced budget because of a recent one-time infusion of $2.8 million by the provincial government to help deal with the flu season.
