Belleville Transit welcomed their one millionth rider of 2018 this morning (Monday).
Carl Ehrke was greeted by Mayor Taso Christopher, Paul Buck, the Manager of Transit Services and the Belleville Transit Committee this morning after he boarded the bus.
The long time transit user was shocked to get the accolade and walked away with a small gift and a December bus pass.
Buck says this is a great achievement for the service.
He says the city came close last year to one million riders but fell just short of the mark.
Belleville Transit chair Jack Miller says the city has come a long way.
In terms of what comes next, both Miller and Buck agree, the city will need to look at expansion of transit services.
Miller says with the equipment they have, the resources are limited compared to the ridership as it’s growing and it if continues this way, council will be faced with a very nice problem.
Buck says that history has shown that if they provide the service, the passengers are there and if they can increase the capacity for the service the passengers will be there.
