The first Member of Parliament the Bay of Quinte riding has ever had loves his job.
That’s what MP Neil Ellis stressed at a celebration of his uncontested nomination to run again for
the Liberal Party in the October federal election.
“I’ve got a great staff and we’ve worked hard and really enjoyed helping people in the riding access
the myriad of government services out there and we’ve helped solve a lot of problems for folks.”
During an informal gathering at the Trent Port Marina Friday night, Ellis thanked the hundreds of people
who helped him win in 2015 and continued to help over the past three years.
“After three years, I believe we’ve made a positive difference in the Bay of Quinte riding.”
Ellis focussed on one person for special thanks, the late Bev Boyd. “Bev was one of the most dedicated
volunteers I have ever known. She always put others first.”
Ellis also took time to outline what he considers progress made by the federal Liberals over the past three years.
He pointed to the creation of over 600,000 jobs since taking office and a near record low unemployment rate, the lowering of
taxes on business and the supporting of more than 2 million hard-working Canadians with the strengthened Canada
Workers Benefit, lifting thousands out of poverty.
He stressed some good things for seniors as well, such as restoring the age of eligibility for Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement to 65 from 67.
“As your MP, I and my team will continue to help our community, one constituent at a time. Helping others really is the best reward.”
