The City of Belleville has finalized an agreement that will bring five new family doctors to the community in the near future.
In a report city council will see at its regular meeting tomorrow (Tuesday), administration has concluded an agreement with five soon-to-be practicing family physicians that will see them each being paid $25,000 a year until 2023 under the city’s Family Physician Recruitment Program.
Normally, the city only signs a maximum of two future doctors a year but because there was so much interest in the program this year council has agreed to sign a total of seven people in to the program.
Many older doctors will be retiring in the near future and even with the new recruits there will still be a need for more physicians as the city grows.
