The Wellington Dukes battled through adversity in the form of key missing players and lots of penalties to edge the Trenton Golden Hawks 4-3 in double overtime Friday.
Frank Vitucci led the scoring for Wellington with a pair of markers, including the game-winner on a powerplay in overtime, while Andrew Rinaldi added a goal and an assist.
Dylan Massie scored the Dukes other goal, and Daniel Panetta chipped in with two helpers.
Olivier Lafreniere stopped 39 Trenton shots in the win.
On Trenton’s side, Tiger McDonald, Cameron Gaylor and Brad Lindsay all found the net with goals and Matt Nastasiuk added two assists.
Anand Oberoi allowed three goals on 17 shots before being replaced late in the second period by Ben Allard-Robitaille, who stopped 19 of 20 shots and allowed just the overtime winner.
The Dukes penalty kill was busy and effective in the victory, thwarting nine of 10 Golden Hawk powerplay opportunities.
Wellington has now claimed two victories in the Battle of Quinte for 2018-19. The next head-to-head matchup is December 2 at 7 p.m. back in Trenton.
Next game for the G-Hawks will be a trip to North York to play the Rangers at 3 p.m. Sunday, while the Dukes are off until Monday, when they face the Cougars in Cobourg at 7 p.m.
Raiders pummel Little Britain
Ryan Casselman posted a hat trick for the Napanee Raiders in a 9-2 thrashing of the Little Britain Merchants in Provincial Junior C action Friday night.
Cameron Harris assisted on four Napanee goals and Austin Labelle chalked up a three point night.
Bailey Maracle was the winning goaltender.
